Join the Band
The Cincinnati Caledonian Pipes and Drums Band is open to any individual who wishes to join the organization. There are two levels of membership:
- Performing Member: One who performs with the band as a musician and enjoys a performing member’s full voting privileges if eighteen years of age or older.
- Associate Member: One who is taking lessons with the intent of becoming a performing musician or one who wishes to serve the band in a non-performing way.
Qualification for Membership
- Performing Member: Any person who is able to perform the minimum requirements as set forth by the Pipe Major or Drum Sergeant.
- Associate Member: Any person who is willing to contribute their time to the band.
An individual can become an Associate Member by expressing an interest in the Cincinnati Caledonian's Pipes and Drums band and filling out an information sheet. Upon completion of this sheet, the Member will be given a band Handbook.
The band requires prospective performing members to audition prior to becoming a Performing Member. The prospective member will play the Performance Sets with the entire band for a judging panel consisting of the Band Officers. The candidate must receive a passing vote from all the judges, otherwise contingencies are given and the candidate may audition again at a later time.
Those Performance Members interested in competing in the Competition Bands are auditioned in a similar manner as the Performance Members. Performance member will contact the appropriate level Pipe Major Section Leader for an audition. Competition Player status differs from Performance Member status in that Competition status is not static. In other words, Competition Players can change from one competition to the next competition, and can be asked to re-audition at anytime. The Pipe Major of the appropriate level competition band ultimately has the final say on who will compete at any given time.
